How To Measure For a Belt
We have a reputation for making both outstanding waist belts and cartridge belts. All are built to the same high standards as our holsters and, as with those, you have complete control . We offer all widths, styles & tooling plus a variety of buckles. In addition, you may direct the placement of your spare rifle or pistol cartridges to suit your needs. Please note that it is absolutely impossible to list every belt we do. Rather than even to attempt that, we use this page to explain the measurements required for a custom belt and other pages to highlight the different TYPES or STYLES of belts that we offer.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNLESS YOU ARE STANDING IN FRONT OF US, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GIVING US A CORRECT MEASUREMENT. IF IT IS WRONG, WE DO NOT MAKE EXCHANGES!
Accurate measurements are required in order to make a belt.
We CANNOT accept your jean or pants size as an accurate measurement. Belt measurements taken by reading numbers from an existing belt are also unacceptable.
TO MEASURE FOR A WAISTBELT (a belt that fits through the standard loops of jeans or dress pants:
a) IF WE PROVIDE THE BUCKLE:
Runs a measuring tape around your waist AT THE LEVEL OF YOUR PANTS LOOPS. Give us that number plus any info on sudden weight loss or gain, diet, illness or other issues that might affect the belt's fit. We do not ask this to be nosey. We want to accomodate any issues by placing adjustment holes correctly so that the belt will work for your circumstances not only immediately but for the future as well. Please also tell us if you are very slender in the hips or if you have trouble keeping your jeans up. We have some sneaky options that might help.
b) IF YOU PROVIDE THE BUCKLE:
Measure an existing belt from where the leather folds OVER the buckle to THE HOLE YOU USE THE MOST. Please note that you must follow the contours of the belt as it will not be straight. If you have doubts as to your measuring, you can send us your belt and we will happily do it for you.
TO MEASURE FOR A GUN BELT:
Run a tape measure around your hip at the point where you intend to wear the gun belt. This is generally 1" below your waistbelt but can vary depending on your personal preferences or body type.
TO MEASURE FOR A BUSCADERO (DROP LOOP) STYLE GUN BELT:
We will need TWO measurements. a) Run a tape measure around your hip at the point where you intend to wear the buscadero gun belt. This will be at the same point as you would wear a standard gun belt. b) Take a measurement at this same spot from the CENTER of the front of your pants to the main side seam.
REGARDING WAISTBELT MEASUREMENTS FOR WOMEN:
Measuring a belt is complicated by what clothes you choose to wear and where the belt loops are on those items. Measure either for a specific pair of pants or a skirt or for an average of several styles of skirt or pants. For the latter, measure at the place you normally wear the belt on each item. Give us the largest and smallest number and we will do the math to make your belt.
