Some time around 1989, I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Brown. He admitted to holdi grudge well enoughc to have taken this portfolio off the market for nearly 50 years. 34 years after that meeting, I find myself with several from the estate of a friend. While in Bob’s company, he told me that each portfolio had been signed by Norman Rockwell (yes, that Norman Rockwell).
The patterns in the portfolio cover wallets, holsters, purses and some of Bob’s stylized western images. Historical ands useful.

If you like old tyme flowers in the Arizona tradition, this is a book for you. Baird worked for Porters in Phoenix, A. it was a time when the “Porter style” was legend. The book was published after his better known work “Leather Secrets,” and came, not as a book but as loose sheets in a paper sleeve. The final iteration of the volume is in a hard-back, protective cover.
Published originally in 1955, the pages offer flowers and floral elements plus some helpful ideas on how to incorporate them.

The Old George was original built by Al Sthlman to hold the bars of saddles at any angle required for saddle construction. Ours is outfitted with a wood keel which conveniently fit into the wood vice behind our main bench. It can be easily altered simply by removing the bolt holding it to the wood.

I don’t remember who made this little 4” splitter. I do know it served us well for years, taking the ends of many a belt turnback down in thickness so we could line the entire belt. It probably needs a bit of honing and a tiny bit of steel wool on the roller to put it back to snuff. We’d be using it yet, but a relly good friend upgraded us with a wider splitter. As a result, this one needs a good home.

This isn’t just any compass with scratches for making stitching grooves. Many years ago when I got this, it was almost useless. Why? Because the scatch ends were downright awful. Not only did they not work, but they were impossible to put a good edge on. That was before a friend stepped in and made new scratches which are absolutely brilliant. In all the downsizing of the shop, well… we need to let it go.

If you make rounded leather handles or headstll parts, this tool does the job. The toothed wheels are eccentric and allow for very narrow or very heavy rounds and anything between. Better yet, you can sneak up on the size you want rather than to be restricted to fixed-sized holes in a metal rounder. It was made by Arnie Miller (one of the first guys making weighted nylon-headed mauls). I don’t believe he made more than 3 before he sold his husiness and retired.
